GPS tracking helps deputies catch wanted man

January 15, 2015 //  by GPS and Track

54a6f5b87eb4e.imageOn Dec. 29, Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 27-year old Geoffrey Guess and booked him into the Fresno County Jail after deputies were able to track him by GPS.

Monday, Dec. 29, at around 8:30 a.m., deputies received a report of a stolen 2003 GMC pickup truck. The owner was able to track the GPS unit in the truck.

A friend of the owner, who was watching the truck’s movements, kept dispatchers updated as patrol deputies responded to the area where the truck was. Deputies received several different GPS hits as Guess drove around. Approximately 20 minutes after the initial report was made, two deputies found the vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on West Sumner Avenue.

As deputies approached in their cars, Guess reversed the stolen truck and rammed one of the patrol cars. He then pulled forward and went in reverse again. The other deputy quickly pulled around and used his patrol car to strike the pickup to prevent it from causing more damage. Guess then jumped out of the truck and began to run through a vineyard. Deputies chased after him on foot and a short time later they were able to catch and arrest him.

Deputies later found items inside the stolen truck and in the vineyard which did not belong to Guess or the owner of the truck.
