Engine Report

Reducing unnecessary engine idle time can lower fuel costs, decrease vehicle wear, and improve overall fleet efficiency. The Engine Report in the GPS Track Fleet Portal provides valuable insights into engine activity, idle time, and fuel waste, helping fleet managers identify opportunities to reduce operating expenses.

To open the Engine Report:

  • Log into your GPS Track Fleet Portal.
  • Hover over the left-hand navigation menu.
  • Select Reports.
  • Click Fleet Reports.
  • Choose Engine Report (the sixth option in the list).

Before running the report, select your desired date range and choose the vehicles you want to include. You can generate a report for your entire fleet or filter the results to a single vehicle.

Configure Your Idle Time Threshold:

At the top of the report, you’ll find the Max Idle setting.

This allows you to define how long a vehicle can remain idling before it’s considered a violation.
For example, you may choose 5, 10, or 15 minutes.

Any engine-on idle event that exceeds your selected threshold will be flagged as an idling violation.

Once your settings are configured, click Submit to generate the report.

The first chart compares:

  • Engine On & Moving
  • Engine On & Idling

Engine Status Breakdown

The second chart provides a more detailed breakdown of:

  • Engine On & Moving
  • Engine On & Idling
  • Engine Off events

View Fleet Performance Summary

Below the charts is a summary section highlighting key engine performance metrics, including:

  • Total engine-on time
  • Engine-on and moving time
  • Engine-on and idling time
  • Idling violation percentage
  • Total number of idling violations

The violation percentage shows exactly how much of your engine runtime exceeded your configured idle threshold, giving you a clear picture of unnecessary engine usage.

Measure Fuel Waste from Idling

One of the most valuable sections of the report is the Fuel Waste graph.

This visualization estimates how many gallons of fuel are consumed while vehicles are idling, helping you understand the financial impact of excessive idle time and identify opportunities to reduce fuel costs.

The Idling Violations by Day of Week chart reveals when excessive idling occurs most frequently.

  • Identify operational inefficiencies
  • Improve driver coaching
  • Adjust scheduling or routing
  • Reduce unnecessary fuel consumption

Review Detailed Engine Event Data

The lower section of the report contains detailed source data for every engine event.

Each record includes:

  • Date and time
  • Vehicle location
  • Engine status
  • Idle duration

You can sort the table to quickly identify the longest idle events or use the search bar to locate activity at specific addresses or locations. When needed, export the report using the Save File option for further analysis or record keeping.
