A Prairie Grove Plumbing Family’s Trailer Theft

For a young trade business, the work trailer is not just storage. It is the shop, the supply room, and the toolbox, all hitched to one ball. A family plumbing business in Prairie Grove, Arkansas found out what happens when that trailer disappears.

Jesus and Sierra Sidon started their plumbing business about a year ago. According to KNWA/KFTA, the business trailer was stolen two weeks ago from the front yard of their home.

Sierra told the station her first move was to call her husband and ask whether he had the trailer with him. He did not. From there, the couple called police and reported it stolen.

The trailer held the everyday tools a plumber cannot work without. Wrenches, plungers, and pliers are among the items missing. Jesus described how much energy and time it took to build up what they had, including a lot of time away from the family..

When Your Branding Works Against You

We see this kind of theft far too often, and enclosed trailers owned by tradespeople are a favorite target. Putting your company name, phone number, and website on the side of a trailer is smart marketing. It also tells anyone driving past that there is valuable equipment inside. Lettering that brings in customers can just as easily bring in thieves.

Once a trailer is spotted, thieves often come back for it. From there they tend to follow one of a few patterns:

  • Tow it to an empty or abandoned lot
  • Unload the equipment into a rental moving truck
  • Keep the trailer and everything in it

A trailer parked at home overnight is especially exposed. Nobody is watching the driveway at 3 a.m., and by morning the trailer can be hours away.

Two Trackers, One Trailer

For enclosed trailers, we recommend a dual GPS tracker setup. It covers both ways thieves usually cash in: taking the trailer, or emptying it.

  • A primary tracker on the trailer itself, so you can follow the trailer wherever it is towed
  • A backup tracker inside, with the equipment, so if thieves unload your tools, the backup goes with them
  • Separation alerts, so if the two trackers get split up, they notify each other and you know the gear has been moved

Both units use real satellite tracking. That is a different tool from a Bluetooth tag, which only reports a location when it happens to be near another device.

Protecting the Trailer That Pays the Bills

Plenty of tradespeople park the work trailer at home at the end of the day. That is exactly why this story hits close for so many small business owners. A GPS tracker can change whether you are working from a description and a police report, or handing officers a location.

The Sidons have turned to Facebook to share their story, hoping someone has seen the trailer. Sierra said other small businesses, fellow plumbing companies, customers, and the wider community have all reached out with support.

Jesus has been able to keep the business running, but the theft was a major financial hit for a company only a year old.
