Phoenix-area vehicle thefts highlight the importance of GPS tracking

Phoenix police say at least 70 vehicles were stolen from privately owned parking lots near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport between July 2025 and June 2026. Many were luxury vehicles or cars rented through Turo.

Investigators believe some vehicles were taken toward Nogales and may have been intended to cross into Mexico. Two men have been arrested, while police continue searching for additional suspects.

The thefts reportedly occurred near the airport, including at privately owned airport parking facilities. Authorities have not said the vehicles were stolen from Sky Harbor Airport property.

While no GPS tracking device can stop a theft from happening, a GPS and Track real-time GPS tracker for rental cars can improve the chances of recovering a stolen vehicle by providing accurate location information after the theft occurs. Many vehicle owners use GPS car trackers as part of their overall anti-theft strategy alongside steering wheel locks, alarms, and secure parking.
