Stolen in 60 Seconds,
Found 12 Miles Away
Here’s another recovery story, and this one starts in a place most people think is safe. A customer parked his 2015 Ram 2500 in a secured, paid parking garage in downtown San Antonio late on a Friday night. When he came back Saturday morning, the truck was gone.
The garage’s security cameras told the story. Around 2 a.m., two people pulled in driving an SUV. One got out, used a screwdriver to pop the door lock, climbed in, and drove away. From start to finish, the theft took about one minute. Gates, cameras, and a parking fee didn’t slow them down at all.
Every Mile on the Record
Instead of filing a report and hoping, the owner opened his GPS and Track app. The truck was sitting at an apartment complex on the west side of San Antonio, about 12 miles from the garage. He called the police, who took the theft report and drove him straight to the complex. The truck was parked exactly where the map showed it. Officers told him it probably would never have been recovered without the GPS tracker.
The tracker didn’t just find the truck. It recorded the thief’s entire route after leaving the garage:
That kind of trip history gives police a clear timeline of what happened, and gives owners proof of exactly where their vehicle went.
Geofence Alerts as a Second Line of Defense
Today this customer uses the geofence feature on his GPS and Track unit. If his truck ever leaves the area where it’s supposed to be, he gets a text alert right away, not the next morning. He’s also added a GPS tracking device to every vehicle he owns. In his words, he highly recommends GPS and Track to anyone who wants to protect their vehicles.
If a thief can take a truck in 60 seconds, the real question is how fast you can get it back.
