Schools to roll out GPS tracking of buses

September 11, 2015 //  by GPS and Track

BusesWILLIAMSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – For the first time, Martin County Schools will use a GPS system to track its buses.

Right now, staff and drivers are getting training on how the system works.

The new GPS system is the latest move in Martin County Schools to keep drivers accountable and improve safety.

With the new GPS system, the transportation department can track bus routes, monitor drivers’ time, and find news routes in case of an emergency.

Hank Edwards with the school system’s transportation department says these systems are about improving how the buses operate.

“Knowing that they are on time, knowing that the kids are at the bus stops on time,” explained Hank Edwards, Martin County Schools. “If there are some changes that need to be do with route times, knowing that we can make those changes accordingly.”

Right now, staff and drivers are still getting trained on how to use the new system.

The school system’s first fully equipped run is September 18th.
