The Fleet Tracking Contract You Didn’t Know You Signed
Plenty of businesses are locked into a GPS tracking contract without realizing it. Most only find out when they try to leave. We saw this happen recently with a new client, and it’s a good reminder to check the fine print before your current provider makes the decision for you.
He was already using one of the biggest names in fleet tracking, the kind of company whose name you see on the side of sports stadiums. We asked him directly whether he had a contract with them. He didn’t think so.
It turned out he did. He still had about six months left on his agreement, and he had no idea.
How the Fine Print Keeps You In
His contract came with a catch. To get out, he had to cancel at least 60 days before the end of the term. If he missed that window, the contract would automatically renew for another two years.
Auto-renewal terms are easy to forget. The contract gets signed once, the trackers keep working, and the cancellation deadline passes quietly. By the time a business looks for a better option, it may already be committed to years more of the same service.
When Support Takes Days
The contract wasn’t his only frustration. This client has a specific use case and needs detailed reporting to run his business.
When he called his provider for help, it usually took two to three days to hear back. And each time, he spoke with someone different, which meant explaining his situation all over again.
At GPS & Track, we keep things straightforward.
When you call us, we pick up on the first ring. Our tech team can get to work on your problem right away, so you aren’t left waiting days for an answer or starting over with a new person each time.
Why Sign a Contract at All?
If you can get the tracking and reporting your business needs without being locked in, there’s little reason to sign one. If you’re using a fleet tracking provider now, look up your contract terms and note your cancellation window. A few minutes today could save you from an extra two years you never meant to sign up for.
